The Madurai North assembly constituency is located in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, covering parts of Madurai South Taluk and Madurai North Taluk, including the Melamadai town panchayat. With a total of 244,879 registered voters, the constituency has 119,507 male voters and 125,326 female voters, making it a significant electoral battleground. The constituency has 240 polling booths and is classified as a General constituency, with no SC/ST reservation. Notably, the constituency is part of the historic city of Madurai, known for its ancient temples and cultural heritage.

The Madurai North constituency has witnessed a seesaw battle between the DMK and AIADMK parties in recent years. In the 2021 assembly elections, G. Thalapathi of the DMK won the seat with 73,010 votes, securing a margin of 22,916 votes.
